4th of July Scramble

Pool Party

The pool party on June 6th hosted by the social club was a huge success. Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped out. We had a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a good time. It was an opportunity to show off our new umbrellas, lounge chairs, freshly painted wrought iron furniture and overall clean up around the pool. We had a moon bounce & slide for the kids which was very popular. We also served hotdogs and drinks and members took advantage of the beer cart. We are having another members pool party on Friday, July 10th starting at 7pm. The cost is $5 per person and this includes a hamburger dinner. Please join us and enjoy a summer evening by the pool.

Thanks to Missy Reynolds for taking all of these great pictures. If you have any pictures you would like to share, please let us know!

Our "New" Tennis Courts

BEFORE

AFTER
The resurfacing of the tennis courts is complete!  All four courts have been repaired and repainted.  They are ready for play.  We are currently working on our pricing for tennis memberships.  We are also finalizing our plan on how to operate the tennis courts to ensure that the courts are secure and the courts are only being used by our members.  Please stop by and take a look.   This is another wonderful amenity our club now has to offer.

Sprigging is underway!

Sprigging of the new grass began bright and early this morning.   There were many volunteers to show up and offer their help and they are very much appreciated.   As of about 2:30 on Tuesday, 10 holes have been completed.  Only 8 to go.  It has been a long and hot day but it will all be worth it in about 6 weeks.

Top dressing the putting green
These are the sprigs.

Friday's Storm

What a storm that blew through Hernando on Friday afternoon.  It is amazing how much damage can be done in such a short time.  As bad as it was, it could have been much worse so we are certainly grateful.  There is a lot of clean up to do.  I know many of you had a mess at home as well so thanks for your patience as our crews get this all cleaned up.  I heard we had a group of members coming through Olive Branch about the same time as the tornado.  Thankfully, they were able to seek shelter inside of a warehouse.  We are so thankful that everyone is ok.

Pool Repair

The pool was shut down for a couple of days to fix the paster in the shallow end. Danny and Redman are hard at work to have the pool back open and ready for our open house.

Greens Resurfacing

The much anticipated greens project is underway!! Progress has been slowed somewhat this past week with rain, but all in all the first week was successful. After the turf is removed, the greens will be tilled and shaped.

Happy Birthday!!

Look who has turned 40!!

Cinco De Mayo

The covered patio and member's lounge was decorated by our social committee with a Mexican flair. We were celebrating Cinco de Mayo, but it was really an excuse for us to have a party, put on a great taco bar and drink foaming frozen margaritas!!

Cash For Cans

The first haul resulted in 200 lbs of cans for $40.60 which will be applied to the HDTV fund. Thank you for all that participated and please continue to drink at the club and bring your cans from home.

Taking A Dip

A little mishap made for some excitement around the clubhouse as members piled in their pickups and golfcarts to come to the aid of none other than Cindy Lantrip. It was fun to watch as the men scratched their heads and other places trying to figure out how to pull the cart out without tearing it up.

It was impressive watching Danny and Billy trying to figure out how to tie a knot. George operated in a supervisory capacity as he did not want to spill his beer. Gerald's new truck got some mud on it, but all in all it was a successful rescue.

Kick Off Scramble

This tournament had much better weather and as usual a good time was had by all. The winners will be published in the next newsletter.

Scramble/Dinner/Dance

The scramble was cold and windy...some called it a day early, but when we came in we were treated to great food, great conversation and the best DJ in Desoto County our own Kenny Kopf. The lounge was enjoyed by those that would rather play than dance.

Members Lounge Grand Opening

The evening started off with Redman grilling hamburgers and hotdogs and boy, did they smell good. The golfers finishing up their rounds found them hard to resist. All in all 60 hamburgers and 18 hotdogs were cooked and not one was left over!!

After dinner it was into the new lounge for some spirited games of pool. At first, quarters on the table designated who would play next. The back up became so long, a list of "who played next" was put on the back of the door. Rumor has it....the best in the house are Gerald Reynolds, Ronnie Carter and Jerry Thompson. So if you decide to play these guys.....well let's just say you better bring your "A" game.

For those waiting for the pool table, the new golf game proved to be quite a challenge and lots of fun. We over heard the machine talking... "he is not as good as he thinks he is!", "he's on the dance floor" and "that ball needs to get up"...one other was..."he is going to hurt somebody with shots like that!"
